Welcome to the wonderful world of user control. He who has the power wins the game, and with this mod, you will be quite powerful, wielding the wand that grants access only those you want to have access to your auction site.
The Open Proxy and Country Ban has been born out of a need of necessity. Since the beginning of time, there has always been an idiot in every crowd. That 1 particular moron who wants to cause as much trouble as he possibly can. That 1 bafoon who wants to scam anyone and everyone possible. He pretty much had the run of the mill...... Until now.
- OPCBS will allow you to completely BAN an entire COUNTRY from accessing your site
- OPCBS will allow you to completely BAN anyone who uses an open/unsecure Proxy Server
Why would we want to do this? A few brief reasons:
- Eliminate countries which yield mass quanities of Fraudulent users
- Eliminate countries which yield mass quanities of Scams (IE: Nigeria)
- A user trying to hide their identify via an open proxy is generally a problematic user
Will this ban those users who are forced to use proxies? (IE: AOL)
NO! AOL users, and any other user who is 'forced' to use a proxy, will not be banned. Why? The proxy servers these ISP's utilize are SECURED and are not 'wide open access' servers.
With the built in proxy checker that I have created, it will attempt to connect to the IP address of the user that his headers are providing, and will attempt to connect to known open/unsecure 'ports' at that address If a connection is made, the proxy is unsecure/open, and hes denied access. This is not one of those 'check blackhole' scripts. This one actually does its job.
In addition to completing a live, realtime proxy check, we back it up even further with checking to see what country the IP address being given, is located in. From here, we cross check our settings to see if hes coming from a country that we allow. If he is not, whamo, presto, DENYO!
While I will not guarantee it will catch EVERY proxy out there (no one can make this guarantee) I will guarantee that it will catch ALMOST every proxy out there and eliminate most, if not all, people that are causing you troubles.
There are several 'services' around the web which offer this same thing for a monthly, and or a quarterly fee. No need to waste your coins on a subscription service, when you can get it, built into your site, for one low reasonable price!
The installation of this mod is very easy. 5 Minutes or less for a Novice.
